In 2017 Incubation Operations, Training & Applications (IOTA) was commissioned by the Village of Los Lunas and The City of Rio Communities, and supported by the USDA to conduct a business incubation feasibility study to determine the viability of a business incubator initiative in Valencia County. In which, they concluded:
With the release of IOTA's Report, VCBI was born. During a Global Pandemic, VCBI maintained its tenacity and was ultimately granted 501c3 status by the Internal Revenue Service in 2021. Keeping with the momentum, VCBI found our initial headquarters in The City of Rio Communities with an additional intake center at UNM's New Workforce Training Center in Los Lunas. Allowing VCBI to effectively assist clients throughout the county.
